Eric Y. Tenkorang received his Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Western Ontario (now Western University, Canada), in 2008, after which he held a SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Social Justice and Sexual Health Research Lab, University of Windsor. Currently, he is Associate Professor of Sociology at the Memorial University of Newfoundland in St. John’s, Canada. Eric’s research interests over the past few years have broadly examined the social and cultural determinants of health among at-risk and vulnerable populations in developed and developing countries. Specifically, he has been interested in the sexual reproductive health of youth and women in HIV endemic parts of the world, mostly sub-Sahara Africa. His research interests have expanded to examining the socio-cultural underpinnings of intimate partner violence in several African countries. Eric has published over 70 peer-reviewed articles and presented over 80 conference papers at various national and international platforms. He is a Fellow of the Population Reference Bureau’s Policy Communication Program (USA) and the Carnegie African Diaspora Program (USA). His work has been supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) of Canada and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada. Eric is one of the International Associate Editors (HIV/AIDS section) for BMC International Health & Human Rights, a peer-reviewed journal that publishes articles related to health and disease in developing and transitional countries. He has served as a co-guest editor for a special issue in the Journal of Interpersonal Violence. He was a member of the Canadian Institute of Health Research’s (CIHR) Institute Advisory Board on Health Promotion and Prevention, but currently sits on the advisory board for Gender and Health. He is delighted with this new opportunity to serve as an external advisory committee member for the Research and Grant Institute of Ghana.
