DEPARTMENT OF RESEARCH AND PUBLIC POLICY

 

The Department of Research and Public Policy comprises dedicated and experienced researchers who are passionate about advancing academic discourse, improving life, and contributing to socio-economic development through the innovative powers of both applied and basic research. The Department provides the following services;

Training and Capacity Building: The Department provides training in quality research and methodological design, development of research proposal, grant applications, research publications, and statistics and data analysis using a range of software (e.g., SPSS, MPlus, STATA, LISREL, AMOS, EQS, NVivo, Matlab). The training is tailored to the needs of the participants using the state-of-the-art facilities and evidence-based training methodologies delivered by leading scholars across the globe, including from Ghana. Participants are taking through a series of simulated and hands-on exercises to bridge the gap between knowledge and practice to ensure mastery and competency in the research arena. Beneficiaries and targets of the training and capacity building programs include the university community, research institutions, state institutions and agencies (e.g., ministries), financial institutions, businesses, and industries.  

 

Consultancy: The Department provides consultancy services to state and non-state institutions, businesses, industries, and development partners in the following areas:

·         Research and development

·         Strategies for effective dissemination and uptake of research findings

·         Monitoring and evaluation of research uptake

Monitoring and Evaluation: The Department employs rigorous and robust methodologies to monitor and evaluate programs and offer evidence-based policy recommendations to businesses, industries, the Government of Ghana, development partners, interested organizations, and individuals.

 

Internships: The Department provides internship opportunities to students and researchers who want to be mentored by the research fellows and associates at the Research and Grant Institute of Ghana.

Faculty Mentoring Scheme (FMS): The Department connects young, emerging and enthusiastic Ghanaian researchers and scientists to mentors in Ghana and abroad who have excelled in their respective fields. The scheme enables the mentees to closely learn and tap from the mentors the relevant experiences and expertise for their academic and research endeavors. The mentors and mentees are matched using criteria such as research interest and academic background. In addition to the various platforms of engagement (e.g., communication via Skype and other electronic media), the mentorship program may include a trip to the host institution for a specified period of time.

Workshops, Seminars, and Conferences: The Department organizes national, regional, and international workshops, seminars, and conferences to increase the knowledge base and competency of the research community and interested organizations.  Themes for the workshops, seminars, and conferences include;
